Er steht für „die alltägliche Reduktion eines Menschen auf seine Beeinträchtigung“. Ableismus kann sich durch Nicht-Thematisierung der Behinderung zeigen wie durch Überbetonung der Behinderung, durch Abwertung und Ausgrenzung wegen abweichender Körperlichkeit wie durch paternalistische Fürsorge.
